APRIL 4, 2021 – Congratulations to the students and staff at Greensboro College Middle College, winners of the 2022 Say Yes Guilford March Madness Championship. Greensboro College’s percentage of students registering for the scholarships topped UNCG’s Early Middle College in the final week of competition, securing a $1000 donation to the school’s counseling department and a prize for each participating senior.

All 28 high schools began the race for the title in early March, each encouraging their seniors to register for Say Yes scholarships and increasing their school’s chance of moving forward in the competition. Scoring was based on a school’s percentage of seniors who have fully completed Say Yes registration. In the final week of competition, Greensboro College Middle College had more than 28% of graduating seniors complete the Say Yes Guilford application.

Say Yes Guilford works closely year-round with Guilford County Schools to increase graduates’ postsecondary success and increasing FAFSA completion is a core part of that goal. Families must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to qualify for scholarships and financial aid, critical to many students completing their education. As part of the Say Yes Scholarship Registration process, students will complete the FAFSA, making them eligible for federal grants, loans, and additional scholarships.

Every GCS high school has graduates who are continuing their education with Say Yes Guilford support – $8.4 million among more than 1000 students in the 2020-21 school year alone. In 2021 Dudley topped all GCS high schools to win the March Madness Competition.

Since its inception in 2015, Say Yes Guilford has partnered with GCS to provide thousands of hours of tutoring, college prep and financial aid workshops, and career counseling to students. Thanks to generous community support SYG has awarded more than $11.4 million to GCS graduates, and our partnership with more than 100 private colleges and universities provided another $25.4 million for a total scholarship impact of more than $36.5 million.

Say Yes Guilford is committed to providing access to support services and scholarships designed to prepare Guilford County Schools’ students for success in college, career, and life.

Say Yes Guilford scholarship registration is open for GCS seniors through June 1, 2022.
