Cheers and screams of delight greeted the Say Yes Guilford staff during the annual Say Yes Guilford Holiday Book Giveaway. Staff delivered more than 3300 books every classroom at Foust, McLeansville, Sedalia and Wiley Elementary schools.
Picture books, YA mysteries, graphic novels and even cookbooks were piled high in bags and boxes for the students. Volunteers shopped for the stories at the Scholastic Warehouse sale. Teachers can use the books for their classroom libraries or may choose to send them home with students.
It didn’t take long for students to dive into the new books. Some sat at desks while their teacher read from the crisp pages, while others cuddled in corners wide-eyed.
The Say Yes Guilford book giveaway is an annual event. Staff hopes to put even more books into students’ hands in 2020.
